What’s Bringing You Joy?

Uplifting message on a towel drying on a balcony
My neighbours sharing their appreciation for life

What’s bringing you joy right now?

Lately I’ve become very aware. I’ve noticed that so many people are quick to jump onto the misery bandwagon. They share their worries concerns, frustrations etc. at the drop of a hat. On social media, when bumping into them in the coffee shop or shopping mall.

How are you? And out it spills…

Hey, it’s good to share. Sometimes a good vent is all we need to bring us back to balance. Kinda like a verbal vomit to clear the system. A detox if you will.

But how often is this getting out of balance?

Recently I had lunch with some lovely ladies who had been on a 15 day vacation. I was excited to hear about their travels. But on the way home their flight was cancelled. They got stuck in hotel for two nights. However I tried to steer the conversation, it went back to the miserable return journey.

Does is sound or feel familiar?

I know I’ve been that person, time and time again. Until I realised I can choose. That’s right. Choose how I feel.

And choosing how I feel begins with focusing my attention on the good stuff.

What’s joyful in your life?

What’s bringing you joy? Making you smile? Lifting your spirits?

Seriously, what’s bringing hope for brighter times?

Me? I’ve started knitting again. A little pocket of life I have complete and utter control over. But it’s more than that. It’s also meditative, bringing a sense of calm and peace.

Knitting pattern and work in progress
My current project. What we knitters call WIP (work in progress)

And cooking. Another place I’m in control. But it also takes total focus. Being in the now. Mindfulness. And comfort when I sit down to enjoy my labours.

These also engage a love language: giving and receiving. I have knit many projects for friends and family. And I love to share my kitchen magic.

And then there’s walking outside. Sometimes I resist. Tucking in and wanting to hide. But when I head out for my daily walk I feel alive. Fresh air. And often sunshine. But there’s more…

Noticing the birds, flowers, ocean scents. Connecting with nature I feel whole. Content.

And all of these things bring me joy. I feel good to be alive. Enjoying the moments.Living for today. Dreaming for tomorrow.

So, Dearheart, I challenge you: share with me what brings you joy. I know you’ve got some. And together we can support each other in keeping joy alive! Big love
