Life’s Short — Buy the Baseball Cap

A little of what you fancy does you good!
I love a nice hat. It really is the little things that count.
Gradually making changes to become unapologetically me! Not everything has to be sensible. And…we don’t have to make sense to anyone else.
I saw the hat.
I live in a sunny climate. And after a few years of hair loss due to stress and grief, I take much better care of my hair. Hats are an important part of self-care in the sun. A baseball cap provides shade for my face. A rather nasty sunburnt lip a couple of years ago taught me a lesson.
And honestly, baseball caps have become my thing after an ex-partner stole my favourite. I bought it in Maui as a 60th birthday gift to myself.
Anyhoos, I have a few.
I saw this one.
I said “I don’t need another.” Followed by “it’s not cheap!” And all the other stories the script (negative voice in our heads that we all have) told me about depriving myself. Including not drawing attention to myself.
But, and there’s often a but, I kept thinking about the hat. I know, shallow right?
Or is it?
Why do we choose anything? To feel good.
As a result I decided I’d choose and not let the script choose for me. Aha!
I bought hat. It makes me smile. I feel good.
And, Dearheart, that’s good enough for me.
Now I have a LOVE hat. Who wouldn’t want one?
So, I thought I’d share my hat and my story with you. Perhaps a journal prompt, or maybe a little nudge…Where are you holding back? Think about it. Is there something tickling the back of your mind?
Consciously Creating Compassion begins with you. For many years I thought I had to look after everyone else and forgot about me. Now, I’m having fun being kind to me as well.
And okay, I know you might not want a Love Hat, but what do you want. Start by focusing on that. As the Spice Girls put it so very well “so tell me what you want, what you really, really want!”
