Eating Made Simple – Nutrition 101

Eating Healthy During Cancer Treatment | Nutrition 101Remember the good old days?

When eating used to be simple.

As long as the food looked good and tasted good, or at least tasted reasonable, we ate it. No worries or cares. We just ate it and put our thoughts and energy into other things.

But things have changed. Science entered the picture. Eating and dining became a laboratory experiment. And nowadays, we just don’t know what to think … and worse still, what to eat.

We’ve been told:

Eat soy. It lowers our cholesterol. It helps balance your hormones.

Don’t eat soy. It’s the most genetically modified plant on the planet. It effects your thyroid function.

Drink milk. You need the calcium.

Don’t drink milk. It forms mucus in your body.

Eat fish. It’s chockablock full of healthy fat like omega-3.

Don’t eat fish. It’s full of PCBs and mercury and will make you sick.

Did you switch from eating butter to eating margarine? We were told it had fewer saturated fats. But now we are told that those fats are trans-fatty acids which clog arteries just like the saturated fats. Did you change back again?

Are you confused about what to eat and why?

Sometimes I think it’s a cunning plan to just wear us down, so we’ll stop asking questions and just throw anything into the supermarket cart and hurry out.

Have you thrown up your hands in despair and given up?

I hope the answer is ‘NO’ and even if it’s ‘yes’, I want you to be as healthy and vibrant as possible. So, I’m bringing you more useful information and you can start making the right choices for your family’s health and wellness.

Nutrition is important.Apple A Day | Nutrition 101 | Jacqueline Fairbrass

There, I said it. We do need to think about what we are eating. The challenge here is to sort out what is right for you and what you can ignore. I encourage paying attention to what you eat and how it makes you feel.

We are highly intricate beings. The human body is most likely the most complex organism on the face of the earth. And every part of it relies on what we eat and drink to make it function. And let’s face it, we all want to function at our best.

So, where do we start?

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Unless you have an allergy or a food sensitivity to apples, let’s start here. (And note that a sensitivity and an allergy are two different things.)

Food Revolution | Apple A Day | Jacqueline Fairbrass | Nutrition 101I’m a proud Ambassador for the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution. If you don’t know, Jamie is a celebrity chef and is on a mission to change how people eat.

As part of this movement, I’m encouraging you to eat more fruit and vegetables. Yes, pretty simple solution I’ve come up with here:

Let’s all eat more fruit and veg.

As a ‘thank you’ to you for letting me know your thoughts about learning to read Nutrition Labels and decipher Ingredient lists, I’ve got a little pressie for you. And it ties in with Eating More Fruit & Veg…

So, let’s start with an Apple A Day, but know that it isn’t a magic bullet. To gain the most from eating fruits and veggies, you need to eat a variety.

Interesting. I never thought much about fruit and veggies… but now am using them to keep not-so-good-for-me items at bay. {grin} Thanks for sharing.

the old adage “we are what we eat” is probably truer now than ever. With our food being full of nasty stuff and GMO’s to boot, it is essential we each take control of what we put into our bodies. This is how we prevent diseases like cancer, heart disease etc. from ravaging our bodies and our mind. Education is crucial Jackie! So glad you are empowering others through raising their nutrition awareness. xo

It is so much easier to eat more veggies and fruits. I thought I had a food sensitivity to apples. Then I thought it was the pesticides. Later I found that it was because I was eating so much junk and my body was rejecting the good stuff. My body was totally inflamed. Now that I am back on track, I crave veggies and fruits!!

    Thanks for the recipe!!

Isn’t the body amazing @denisemariefilmore:disqus? I’m so glad you found out what was happening and were able to make the shift. Let me know how you enjoy your apples!

Wow — love the free goodie! Who knew all that good scoop on apples?! I always appreciate your practical, sensible approach to good eating, Jacqueline. It CAN be confusing at the grocery, so I’m happy you’re out there helping folks sort it all out.

This is right on point! I just read an article about Monsanto and how they are causing cancer and all these other diseases in Argentina. We have to know what is good for our bodies and what isn’t. More organic and less GMO! And Jamie Oliver is the best! I LOVED his show!! Want him to do another season!

I’ve been living and talking this for nearly 30 years now, and thank goodness there are more people out there bringing it to our attention. It’s scary, but we can make change by beginning with ourselves. I love Jamie too!
