Continuing our battle against the nightmare of Anxiety and Depression.
It’s Step Two of my Seven Step Challenge to Tame the Inner Beast and Overcome Anxiety. (Tame anxiety and depression too!)
You are more than likely aware of the role Anxiety is playing in modern life. But did you know that as little as twelve years ago, when I joined the Board of the Anxiety Disorders Association of Ontario. Yes, only twelve years ago. Anxiety was a mental disorder. People didn’t admit to being anxious.
We accepted Stress in the 80’s and stress has become so common place, we don’t even think of it as an issue. And Anxiety followed in its steps. Time to Tame Anxiety.
And in some cases, Anxiety is still classified as a mental disorder. For example, GAD is Generalized Anxiety Disorder. This has now become so common place that many of us are suffering from it. And the horrid symptoms.
I started studying Depression and helping people with Hypnotherapy, Yoga and Nutrition. As I got further into it, I realized that Depression and Anxiety often go hand in hand. Like a vicious circle. Anxiety burns us out and leads to Depression. Depression keeps us sad and moves into Anxiety. And on we go. So, I started to look at working with people who had Anxiety.
Little did I know, how big this would become! It’s time to Tame Anxiety.
At ADAO we developed a 14 week program to help people suffering from Anxiety. I wrote the Chapter on Nutrition and was instrumental in training the program facilitators. I also recorded a guided visualization for the program. The focus of the visualization is Mindful Living.
Not just a buzz word, but a real thing. Mindful Living is about being in the now. To be in the now, we have to Slow Down. Or as I sometimes whisper to myself, “Jacqui, slow the f**k down! And breathe.”
So, last challenge, we stopped to smile. This challenge, we are going to Slow Down. And of course, my video includes some wonderful tips on how to make this happen.
Life is made up of time. Your time. Simple pleasures. So, what are you saving time for?
